Bio

Originally from England Clare moved to Canada with her husband and two young children in 1998. She grew up in a large family with both parents enjoying many styles of art and a Father keen on photography. Clare followed a career in Physiotherapy for many years where she loved the variety of clinical areas that she was able to work in. However, after a life changing event in 2013, she began to pursue her love and appreciation of art. This is proving to be a very different and exciting journey. Clares’ paintings have been exhibited in the Ottawa region and are enjoyed in private collections within Canada, United States and Europe. Clare is largely a self taught artist.

Artist Statement

My influences are everything I see, feel and experience. I am inspired by color and texture, and the way light falls on objects and surfaces. I try to convey this in my acrylic and encaustic paintings, although they are not true to form and leave the viewer to their imagination.

Encaustic is a medium I am enjoying exploring to convey my love of layers, texture and imagery in my paintings. I am fascinated with the technique of using warm beeswax and coloured pigments, and then reheating them to fuse many layers onto the birch panels that I use. Wax is resistant to moisture and therefore many of my works hang in bathrooms. The occasional buffing of my encaustic paintings helps maintain their lustre and saturation of colour. I love to incorporate photographs in my paintings, many of which my Father and Son have taken on their travels around the world. This adds to the uniqueness of each piece.

My work with acrylic and encaustic mediums continues to evolve as I experiment with different techniques, textures and styles to convey my love of light and colour.
